  • Key Components: Amazon Elastic Beanstalk, Amazon Rekognition, Amazon S3, Amazon Aurora, Application Load Balancer (ALB), AWS CloudWatch, AWS CloudTrail, Route 53, IAM, and secure VPC networking.
  • Goals: To digitize and streamline attendance tracking for over 20,000 GCC NULM staff using facial recognition and geolocation, ensuring high availability, low latency, secure data handling, and real-time monitoring.
  • Objectives:
  • Enable mobile-based attendance using facial recognition and geotagging.
  • Record check-in and check-out times within 10 minutes of login.
  • Ensure 99.9% availability, horizontal/vertical scaling, and low-latency response under load.
  • Provide data integrity, recoverability, and seamless environment provisioning.
  • Offer role-based access controls, monitoring, and audit logging.
  • Architecture Overview: The solution is deployed in the AWS Mumbai Region, utilizing the following components:
  • Amazon Elastic Beanstalk: Hosts the mobile app backend with auto-scaling capabilities.
  • Amazon Rekognition: Processes and matches facial images for attendance verification.
  • Amazon S3: Securely stores image uploads.
  • Amazon Aurora: Handles metadata and attendance logs in a private subnet.
  • Application Load Balancer (ALB): Manages secure traffic through HTTPS (port 443).
  • GCC Dashboard: Admin dashboard with a dedicated public server and separate private database layer.
  • Route 53: Manages DNS for the domain.
  • AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, IAM Analyzer: Provides monitoring, logging, and compliance features.
  • Secure Networking: Uses public/private subnets with strict security group configurations.
  • Solution Flow:
    1. Mobile App Interaction
      • Staff check-in/out via the mobile app (Android)
      • The app captures facial images and geolocation data.
      • Images are uploaded to Amazon S3.
      • The app invokes Amazon Rekognition to verify the facial match.
    2. Data Processing
      • Attendance metadata is stored in the Aurora database.
      • Data is handled within a private subnet and through secure connections (port 3306).
